Cloudland Retreat Center is open to individuals who long for a time of deep quiet—a beautiful place to encounter God in nature—a place to sit and walk and read and pray.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it…
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:29-30 (The Message)
Over 30 years ago my husband and I envisioned a retreat center for people who wanted to draw closer to God—who longed to learn the unforced rhythms of grace. As we prayed over all those years, we saw, with our spiritual eyes, a 5-10 parcel of land with a cottage-like house surrounded by gardens, a great expanse of sky in the front and trees in the back, a circle drive surrounded by outbuildings that could be refurbished for ministry, and a state park and university nearby. Today that dream is a reality, everything we “saw” fulfilled, all the way down to the circle drive.
A comfortable guest suite with its own bathroom on the ground floor of Cloudland’s 110-year-old farmhouse is a warm and cozy place to nestle when the weather is uncooperative.
Journal at the desk, or curl up on the bed with one of the many books from the bookshelf. The beautiful bathroom decorated in calming blues and whites offers a luxurious soaking tub, complete with a variety of bubble bath soaps and candles to soothe away the aches of your soul.
A prayer room on the grounds is open at all hours for prayer and contemplation. A spiritual director or life-coach available to meet with if one so desires. Plans are in the works to renovate a barn into a retreat house for two guests.
Over two acres of wildflowers provide a perfect place to walk and pray.
The kitchen garden offers tables and chairs for journaling and bird-watching.
Hueston Woods State Park is just 1 mile down the road, with a pretty lake, covered bridge, canoes for rent, trails to hike, pavilions for picnics, playgrounds, and a nature center.
The charming town of Oxford, home of Miami University of Ohio, is less than 10 minutes away by car.
Cloudland is conveniently located between Cincinnati, Dayton, Eaton, and Middletown, Ohio, and Richmond, Indiana.
Come for the day or come for an overnight. Spiritual direction is available with Kathy, and life-coaching is available through Wally, Kathy’s husband.
